The metate was a ceremonial altar where the crushed grains of corn, hallucinogenic plants and herbs used in shamanic rituals. Specific to the culture of Costa Rica, it materializes the peak of the "Flying panel" by its rich iconography that combines the human-animal and technical mastery, carved like lace air from a stone monolith.
